How to get started
The best way to start is come and try.
Simply come and talk to us on a Wednesday or Sunday at Risdon Brook Dam or Montrose Bay Yacht Club (look at our calendar for where we will be on a particular sail day). We are a welcoming group that will have a chat and give you a steer of one of the boats. Contact our Commodore Rod Marshall for information about the club and sailing with us.
Whether you are new to sailing, or have been at it for years, radio sailing is great fun and can be as competitive as you want it to be. Regardless of whether you are looking at just having some fun or wanting to be the next world champion, RC sailing with us will help you.
Buying Second Hand
Look on our For Sale section to see what is available locally, also look on the national web site, where there is always a good list of boats for sale. We suggest that before you buy, have a talk to us for some guidance.
Buying New
Again on the national website, there is a list of local, national and international suppliers.
Build Your Own
If building a boat from scratch takes your fancy, then building is a great challenge with may frustrations but great satisfaction, not to mention a considerable saving in dollars. There are several home designed and built IOM boats in our fleet with the builders always happy to discuss and assist your build ideas.
There is a strong movement world wide amongst the IOM fleet for self built boats particularly in Canada & France.
Here is an example of one of John Taylor's SOFAR's Wooden IOM being built. John is an English sailor who builds all classes of yacht.
Plans are available on the folowing sites for both IOM & Marbleheads
