We don’t get a lot of South Easterly making its way to the Dam and so I was interested to find out what this forecast might bring. Great sailing conditions for IOM’s - that is what it brought! Light and with a bit of West in it at first but it steadily built to about 15 knots throughout the day, and it was perhaps reinforced by sea-breeze effect in the afternoon. All skippers chose their A rigs for the first race and most kept them for the day even though the boats were a handful downwind at times.
There was no consistent ‘right’ way to work your way around the course today and I think that good policy was to simply go on every shift and knock as it was presented to you. Special honorable mention goes to new member Henry Finnis who is leasing the club Mojo. Henry’s was right up there in most of the races and his scorecard featured a race win and a third place. As for the bloke who was setting the courses (without mentioning any names) it was a pity that he couldn’t remember them as it cost him badly in two or three races! Second and third place today were tied on points between Ian Hey and Ray Joyce with Bodge getting the nod on count-back. Jammy Jones won the day again a couple of points ahead. Jammy is enjoying a real return to form and has secured a overall podium finish in each of the last four Wednesday’s that he has sailed. Congratulations Jammy, Ian and Ray. Coming up: Sunday: DF95 Scratch racing at Risdon Brook Dam. Next Wednesday: A special event - The Speak up! Stay ChatTY regatta!
