Today started with a solid SW breeze - went a bit light for half an hour & then came in as a solid sea breeze in mid to top A rig providing the best conditions for some weeks for sailing. A fleet of 14 boats fronted for some intense & very enjoyable racing. The handicap series run by Dave was a mixture of scratch, handicap & long distance races. After about 6 races a green boat ( s/n 28 Trojan 2 managed to edge out another green boat s/n 29 Noux ). John Banks with s/n 29 had his boat going particularly fast & sailed very well particularly in the 2 long distance races, unfortunately a collision with a bank of feral weeds whilst leading up wind in the first LD race cost him overall bragging rights. The silver Fox was very quick all day so he can probably cancel his order for a V9.

Peter Sylvester launched his brand new Mojo #83 today and is already showing promise of being at the top of the fleet very shortly. Fourteen boats sailed today in light & variable west to NW breeze in sunny & warm conditions (at last). The handicap series was run by Dave Murfit in 2 divisions starting one minute apart. The series was won by Dennis Lees who also took the excellent photos. Very light conditions today, what breeze there was was mainly from the south with a little bit of north at times. 12 boats turned up for some sometimes frustrating sailing but never the less enjoyable Good day at the dam today with 11 boats enjoying some close racing. Todays prize in the handicap series was a bottle of red wine, somehow Lisa heard about it & rushed over to the dam to take out 1st place followed by Tony John B & Ron in equal second. Wind was from the south & gradually built during the morning to a good sailing breeze by lunch time. Wayne was the OD & interspersed the racing with a general discussion on key rules that was much appreciated. Here is a link to an interactive rules site that is valuable to refresh the memory. >>> See you next week. Well I have seen better conditions at the dam. Today started with A rig but quickly went to B rig but then returned to A rig, by then the agreement was to stick to B rig to lunch time. Breeze was from NW to SW with squalls interrupted by light patches. After lunch it was back to A rigs before the rain made an appearance & sailing was called off at 2pm. An Audi A6 was supposed to be the prize today but unfortunately the local dealership could not supply so the prize was a minty to each race winner from a packed that had shrunk a little on the drive to the dam. Everyone won a minty except John, Don & Ray mainly because the packet was empty & Ray informed me that vegetarians dont eat mintys - I am still thinking about that one. Nine boats sailing today Well summer certainly arrived today with a northerly breeze fluctuating from mid A to top A rig conditions , the ideal conditions attracted 14 boats with some excellent racing. The handicap racing which was ably run by rocket Rod & won by the silver fox with Stuart H second, Rob Cooney third & John Smith fourth. Thanks to Rod for his efforts A pleasant day at the dam today, The morning started with a gentle southerly with quite a lot of holes in it which more or less continued to lunch. Dave M ran a handicap where a fleet of 12 boats was divided into 2 divisions after a seeding scratch race. From then on boats moved between divisions depending on their results - I thought it worked well & created some additional interest - thanks Dave. After lunch the breeze picked up & some excellent racing was enjoyed Dam (Damn) sailing at its frustrating best. Day started out with a brisk southerly breeze which certainly kept the fleet on its toes with some rather unreadable changes in direction. Good to see 12 boats turn up despite the cool conditions, sailing came to an end at lunch time when the heavens opened up. Thanks to Dave M for the photos. |
