A great weekends sailing, with 30 races completed over the two days. Quite a number of close tussles in amongst the places during the weekend, and some great sportsmanship demonstrated throughout. A big thanks must go to John Hall, who PRO’d the event with grace and polish, and also to Les Hanson and Ken Dobbie, who also filled in throughout the weekend in official capacities, whether that was scoring, observing, or giving John a break from the starts and finishes.
Pretty sure every competitor walked away looking forward to the next A Class event, the Herb Tyson Memorial in a month’s time. Really looking forward to seeing the A Class yachts again grace MBYC then. This time around, Joh Cole-Cook proved to be too consistent, easily running out victorious, with Mike Hickman in second, and Lisa Blackwood in third. Unfortunately, equipment failure saw Lisa out of the last few races, just when it was really hotting up between herself and John for the championship. On an aside note – congratulations to Ray Joyce, who was in SA, competing in the RM Championship over there. A well subscribed event, with 21 competitors. Ray finished the Championship in a very respectable 7th place. Thowaways of two 8th’s and a 9th shows the consistency that he sailed with over the course of the weekend. Quite strong winds there, I believe, with much of the championship on C Rig. Kyle
