A Class Scratch (Sat) and IOM Winter Series Round 2 (today)

5/6/2022

We had four hardy souls come along for an A Class Scratch day at MBYC.
Very cold condiitons, and extremely light wind which seemed not to go beyond around 3 knots all afternoon.
We got just the 6 races in until the wind died completely. Mostly close racing, but the poor GothicA wasn't quite up to the pace this weekend. The other three had a good tight race day though.
Mike showed his excellent light weather skill, winning the day on just 6 points.
John Cole-Cook also sailed very well, second on 10 points.
Rod Marshall sailed the club Venom, which also had very good pace, coming in third, just two behind John with 12 points.

Today was IOM Scratch with a good field of 9 sailors turning up in cold and overcast conditions.
We got 11 races completed. Sailed in various A rig conditions with the last two on B rig.
Mat Gray put in a master class, with 7 wins from the 11 races, coming out a convincing winner on 14 points.
Just as consistent was Michael Hickman, with five seconds and a first, on 23 points.
Lisa Blackwood rounded out the top three, taking three wins for the day as well, on 31 points.

On handicap today, Lisa Blackwood and Rod
Jackman are joint winners on 2 net points, with Chris Wod and John Hall joint 3rd spot with 1 net point.

Big thanks, as always, to Les for his consistent PRO work today.

The club also had its AGM today. As a collective, I'd like to thank the outgoing committee for their work for the last year, and would also like to welcome in the new committee for the next 12 months. I'll send out an email soon with the minutes and pertinant information from the meeting for all.

This coming Wednesday is IOM Mid Week Handicap, starting at 11am at the dam, with Long Distance Handicap on next Sunday, also at the dam - button press at 11am.

Also one for the calendar if you are interested. Our friends at Forcett Lakes are having an IOM Classics handicap day on Monday 13th June (Queens Birthday Holiday), starting at 11am. Classic being defined as a boat number older (smaller) than 1100.
