Day 1 of 3
Calm conditions met the sailors this morning for day 1 of the ARYA DF65 Australian Championship. Unfortunately, the course set and used for yesterday's practice sailing could not be used in the conditions, and we moved to the less used course B area. With the first race being a little far away with the floating pontoon in place, we decided to extend the control area to the gangway to the floating pontoon, and completed another four races before lunch time came. After an enjoyable lunch and chat amongst competitors, we resumed racing, however, with the wind shifting further, we needed to re-sett he course again, further along the sea wall in the course B area. Another three races were held in this area, until the wind direction intervened again, and we moved for the last time for the day to the course C area, where the larger yachts normally race. Finishing promptly at 5, we got twelve races in for the day. We were expecting maybe 8 more, but happy to take what we could with the tricky wind conditions. Two sailors sailed above the rest of the fleet for much of the day today. Phil Burgess (RSYS) and Lisa Blackwood (RBRYC) showed the rest of the field how to sail the light, but sometimes wavy conditions. Phil in front at the end of the day on 20 points, with Lisa 2 further back on 22 points. John Wyatt (SMMC) comfortably in third place, on 36 points, with Phil jackman (RBRYC) currently in 4th on 43 points. Sailing starts again tomorrow at 1030.
