It was decided to start recording results again today, however, not as part of a Scratch campaign, but just as results of the day. We will continue this into the future, inclusive of Wednesdays, with the aim of getting Scratch and Handicap Series back under way on the return of Daylight Savings, so there will be no Winter Series winner at the end of the year this time around. On to todays sailing and results….
Nine hardy skippers turned up today. Personally, I reluctantly packed my IOM into the car, fully believing it would not get wet today. However, on arrival at MBYC, there was a nice, light NW breeze, which gave everyone the motivation to get set up and have a sail. Although it was rather cold, the sailing was very competitive and enjoyable. Les set up some really good courses for us, and continued to make the required changes to both the start lines and actual course as needed. Weed was of very little influence today, and some fantastic close and clean racing ensued. As usual, the cream rose to the top, and Lisa came out winner on the day, with a very consistent score of 9 for the day. Rod J, Ray and Mike battled each other most of the day, with Rod J prevailing in second, from Ray and then Mike. A big thanks to Les, who came along to Pro for the day, making it a very pleasant and enjoyable day for everyone. Upcoming events This Wednesday is the return of IOM Mid Week Handicap. The previous two weeks were scratch days, but on popular request, the handicapping will return for the Mid Week sailing. We are also hoping to get to the dam as soon as possible, and have been in contact with Hobart Water, however, they have set up a “Covid Committee” to assess and approve all their activities. With the dam currently available for exercise only, we needed permission to resume sailing there. I am hoping for affirmation from them this week some time, so fingers crossed for a return to the dam on Wednesday 1st July – but I will pass that on when it is confirmed. Next Sunday is RM Scratch day, followed by our AGM at MBYC Clubrooms straight after, as per my previous email regarding the AGM. Please consider if you would like to be part of the committee for the upcoming season, and if so, email your nomination forms in. We hope to get a good attendance for this meeting, and will be ensuring all social distancing guidelines are met. The meeting likely to be in the main hall, rather than the bar area. Sanitiser is available for use at MBYC, as it is on all race days. The following Sunday, 12th July is the IOM Mid Winter Challenge. Although no ranking events are happening for the remainder of this year, we will still be holding our events as scheduled. Entry forms and NoR are available on the website and we hope to get a really good turnout for the event. If you intend on competing, please get your entries in to me as soon as possible. The on-line entries are not running at the moment, but we hope to get them back soon.
