A very healthy contingent of 15 sailors turned up today for the IOM Southern Tasmanian Championship.
An excellent representation from four of the six ARYA clubs in Tasmania.
The day started with just a 5 knot westerly, however, that freshened after lunch to around 9 knots fromt he south in the afternoon.
The racing was close and tightly contested, with six different race winners and 13 sailors taking a top 3 place in a race.
By the end of the day, there was one clear winner out in front, wit Mat Gray taking out the championship on 23 points.
Second, by the slimmest of margins, was Stuart Dawes, on 34 points.
Rounding out the top three, just one point behind, was Rod Jackman, on 36 points.
Thankyou to all the competitors today. The racing was high standard, well contested, and great to be a part of. The standard of sailing was fantastic, with both very experienced and quite new sailors all mixing it up together well. I'm not sure if many of the sailors noticed oo much today, but there were a lot of passing spectators who stopped and watched the days sailing - always really attractive to watch when there is such a healthy fleet on the water.
Big thanks to Les Hanson and Andrew Wardrop for their volunteer work today ont he course setting, start/finish lines, Pro work and observing. Your work it truly appreciated.
Afterwards, at the bar, we held a presentation for our new Life Member, Les Hanson. Both Rod Marshall and Ken Dobbie passed on some lovely words about Les' involvement in RC Sailing from his early days in Queensland, through to the two decades of service at RBRYC.
Rod also showed the new club shirts, which have arrived. For those who placed the initial orders, short sleeved shirts are $30 and long sleeved shirts $35. They will be ready for you to pay and pick up in the next week or so. For those who haven't yet ordered, they can be ordered again, so see Rod for further info ont he process for doing this.
