IOM Winter Scratch Round 2

2/6/2024

A shortened day today due to the AGM at 1030 and wind dying out on us at about 2.

On arrival at the dam, a surrising 6 knot or so breeze had filled in.

Nine sailors sailed today for just the four races, but everyone enjoyed the sailing and light hearted humour that went along with it.

Some nice tacking duels and the odd "hail mary" move to find a nice lift out there made things really interesting. The split fleet system seems to be wrking very well as evidenced by some of the banter from those in Silver fleet knowing who they all were and having a real hot crack - not only overall but within their placings as well.

Although we nly got four races in, it was really enjoyable sailing and exactly how we like Sundays (and Wednesday of course) to work - with everyone going home after a nice days sailing, looking forward to next week.

Anyway, after a bit of a slower than normal start, Ray must have correctly diagnosed why his boat was slightly off pace, because he aced the rest of the day - by a fair margin to 2nd on two of the three races he won. Thoroughly well deserved round winner this week with 3 points.

Second today was Michael on 7 points. Had a touch of what us mere mortals experience on a few occasions with wind shifts abandoning him, butnever worried about it and calmly made ground afterwards. A very consistent second place.

Third was Chris, just one point in arrears on 8 points. A spectacular out of the blocks start and then a sheeting issue in the second race. Consolidated thereafter and was also very consistent and right n pace.

Silver fleet was also quite tight, with Ricky Price taking out the hnours today on four points.
Second was Rod Marshall, just one behind on 5 points. Quite likely the highest pointing boat today. The Rockstar sailing very well.
Third, on 8 points was John Hall.

Thanks, as always, to Les for his work as Pro today.

Coming up

Wednesday is a return to Mid Week DF95 Handicap at the Dam, button press at 11am

Sunday is IOM Scratch at the Dam, Button Press at 1000.

As mentioned as well, we had out AGM today. I'll post out minutes of the meeting, which will also fill evryone in on the incoming committee.
