Report from Kyle Stewart on day 2 of DF65/RG65 regatta in Devonport 7th & 8th Feb

Day 2 of the Northern Round is now complete and what a day it was. Light to fair winds again, with all DF's staying on "A". I was lucky enough to hold my "A" rig as well, and Chris needed his "B" for the last half of the day.
We had an extra entry today, bringing the fleet up to 14, which was great. Massive thing was the amount of times a fleet hit a mark at the same time, and mostly came through without penalty. A few yells at statuses etc (ie buoy room etc) but all in great spirit overall, and to be honest, the behaviour of all competitors is a great example of how RC yacht racing should be. There was even tolerance for those who may not have known a few rules and explanations given, which was fantastic.

Club Members Kyle Stewart won the overall RG65 class, Peter Harris was third & Alan Furmage 9th in the DF65 class - congratulations . Video from Kyle

Yes, after freezing the clip at the buzzer, one can see three over the line (just).
The PRO role was being rotated each race so everyone, new and old to the sport, had a go and gained some experience from it. With that, some were razor sharp (Alan called a General recall), and some not quite so.
It was all in gaining experience, enjoying the series and improving each and every one of us for next summers series.
A huge amount of positives came out of the weekend, and one can only hope that it improves the participation further next summer.
Two highlights coming from it was that a 14 year old, who has been sailing for only a few months won a race, leading from start to finish, and one of the more experienced guys in the NW returned to sailing after a long break, absolutely loved the weekend and is now going to be sailing there again regularly.
