A series of IOM Scratch races were run at Montrose Bay to give IOM skippers an additional opportunity to sharpen up before the Nationals. The races were run in conjunction with the “Try Radio Yachting Day”. Interested bystanders could try sailing a DF 95 inside the jetty area or watch the IOMs having real races on the outside.
Ray Joyce missed 2 of the scratch races as he was tutoring a gentleman on the finer points of IOM’s and this affected his overall results on the day. John Gard ran a tight series of a mixture of 2 lap races and 1 lap races with few breaks between which gave plenty of starting practice. Andrew Wardrop dropped out of the racing later in the day to take over PRO duties from John who had to leave early. Thankyou John and Andrew. Chris Wood won the day with his Britpop. Rod Jackman came 2nd and was the most consistent skipper on the day and was the only competitor to finish all the races. David Jones who has good boat speed with his V9 was 3rd. Thank you Chris
