Wednesday Handicap Racing

The early morning conditions looked foreboding with grey skies and rain, however by the time the 13 skippers fronted for todays handicap racing, the rain had stopped and it looked like the day would turn out fine, except for the breeze. Everywhere else in Hobart experienced moderate to fresh nor-westerlies, but at the Brook things were the usual up and down shifty, to quote Stu Harris, "shite". Stu was PRO for the day and administered the "revised" handicaps. Off scratch were Alan McKenzie and John Smith, off 30 seconds were Dave Murfet, Don McLeod, Denis Lees, Peter Germein, Rex Calvert and John Deegan, off 50 seconds was Rob Cooney, off 1:10 was Chris Wood and Andrew Wardrop, and off 1:30 Rod Jackman and myself.

Race 1 line honours went to Rob Cooney with Denis Lees and yours truly taking the minor spots. Race 2 saw Alan McKenzie notch up a win with John Smith coming second and Andrew Wardrop third. Race 3 went to Chris Wood with Rod Jackman coming from the back to take second and Peter Germein third. Race 4 line honours went to Wasabi with Don McLeod finishing second and Andrew Wardrop finishing third. Race 5 was Long Distance with double the starting handicaps. John Deegan took the gun with Peter Germein on the podium again as too Rob Cooney. The final race for the day was back to "around the cans" and went to Rod Jackman with Dave Murfet second and Don McLeod third.

Final results for the series saw Don McLeod take the gong with 17 points from yours truly on 20 points in second and Andrew Wardrop on 23 points for third place. Sunday is the return of the Marbleheads with racing from 1:30 PM.
