27/2/2016

Twelve skippers entered for the mid week handicap series under the rein of "Sir Rodney" (sic ,the score sheet), from the land of Id I believe. Conditions on the Brooke were to be expected with a shifting and patchy NNW breeze that was mid to top end A Rig in strength, while on the river it was definitely solid B Rig. Handicaps were: Wayne Turner, Alan McKenzie and John Smith off scratch, Kim Potter, Denis Lees and Peter Germein off 30 seconds and the rest off a capped 1:30.

Race 1 and Wayne Turner took advantage of his handicap to take the gun from a fast finishing Ray Joyce and Bruce Rose. Kim Potter was the uncatchable hare in Race 2 with John smith and Denis Lees filling the minor podium places. Race 3 saw John Smith get a bullet with Alan McKenzie taking second and Kim Potter third. Race 4 and another win with the back markers overhauling the fleet as Chris wood took line honours from Ray Joyce and Andrew Wardrop. With the drop, John Smith led the leader board with 10 points, on countback from Ray Joyce in second and Bruce Rose third with 11 points.  Race 5 saw Peter Germein grab a win from Denis Less on the podium again as too Wayne Turner which shot him the top of the results with 15 points, again on countback from Ray with John Smith nudging out Chris Wood for third on countback with 18 points. The final race and Chris Wood continued to sail well to get the judges nod from Denis Lees and John Smith.

Chris' win gave him the overall win for the day with 19 points, 2 points clear of second place Ray Joyce and Wayne Turner third overall with 23 points.

Sunday is Marblehead racing from 1:30 PM.

Till then, wet sails.

Stuart Dawes.
